New Endorsements show momentum for the campaign for Mayor in New Britain
New Britain, CT — Merrill Gay, Democratic candidate for Mayor of New Britain has been endorsed by United Auto Workers Region 9A, and Connecticut’s Working Families Party, signaling continued, and unprecedented momentum for any challenger in a Mayoral race this year. Gay has tapped into a real frustration with the incumbent’s lack of leadership and initiative to improve our City’s economy, create jobs, incentivize businesses, bolster education, and provide tax assistance to seniors.
“United Auto Workers is proud to endorse Democrat Merrill Gay. Merrill is exactly the kind of person we need at the helm of New Britain,” said Julie Kushner, Director of UAW Region 9A, “Merrill has shown us, time and time again he has what it takes to fight for our communities, and our children. He has never faltered or left a fight for the common good. We know he’s on our side and he’ll fight for the good jobs and great schools that our members care about.”
“We are proud to stand with Merrill Gay, as he has stood with the New Britain community time and time again.,” said Carlos Moreno, Interim Executive Director of WFP, “His years of experience in fighting for working families will make him an effective and hard-working Mayor.”
“I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of two organizations who fight for working families every day. I look forward to continuing our partnership in the coming months to win this election and work towards building a better New Britain,” said Merrill Gay.
UAW Region 9A and CT WFP are the second and third organizations to endorse Merrill ahead of the City’s Democratic nominating convention, which will be held this Thursday. Gay was endorsed by International Machinist Union a few weeks ago. Gay is expected to receive the party’s unanimous endorsement.
